How to wipe my BlackBerry

Okay, where do I start?

I am in serious need of help with my phone. My network provider (T.Mobile) instructed me to perform a software update. So I did. Now, the software update turned my signal off, and since it has been turned off, it has not allowed me to turn it back on for it to continue. I have taken it into the shop but they have told me that I will be without a phone for about one month, this is not a good thing.

So what I really want to know is, Is there anyway I can simply wipe my phone via PC? If so, I would really really appreciate any help. Thanks muchly, Ted :*

Re: How to wipe my BlackBerry

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Sorry...the answer is not as simple as the question...

  • KB14058 How to delete all data and applications from the BlackBerry smartphone using the Security Wipe option
  • KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software
  • KB16307 Actions performed by the BlackBerry smartphone during the removal of stored user and application data

But, I actually don't think any of those will really be of use...rather, something may have gone wrong with the update, and a clean reload might be a better course of action.

You will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.

You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:

  1. Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
  2. If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
  3. If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
  4. Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
  5. If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents

When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.

If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck and let us know!

Re: How to wipe my BlackBerry

Hello!

to check BBSAK is not helpful.

Seems the download link is permanently broken. I tried since days now. no success.

Any other download link than BBSAK.org?

Or any other tool you could kindly recommend?

Thank you!

Lily

Hello,

Very interesting...I tried just now (using both bbsak.org as well as www.bbsak.org) and am able to get to their download page just fine. Consequently, the only thing I can surmise is that something about your internet connection is blocking this or not able to properly access it for some reason or another.

The other tool I know of is JL_CMDER, but I do recall the links I have for it to be broken...but for BBSAK, for me those still work fine.

Good luck!

Re: How to wipe my BlackBerry

Hello, thanks for reply.

The downloadpage is no problem, but when I click the download link I get the following error mesage:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 94371840 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home/jmtventure/bbsak.org/download.php on line 6

I tried from different computers.

Is this a problem on my side or on theirs?

Thanks

Lily

Re: How to wipe my BlackBerry

As far as I can tell, the problem is on your side...I just downloaded it from BBSAK without issues. From the error message you displayed, it sounds like either a permissions or an available space problem on your computer.
