I get this weird icon (black box with a ticking second hand) HELP!!!!!

Everytime I do anything....unlock my phone, type a text/email/bbmsgr,etc I get this little black box in the middle of my screen that has a white second hand that ticks quickly clockwise.  While it is on the screen I can't do anything, it functions like an hourglass on your PC?????  My husband has the same phone and he has never seen this icon, but I see it everytime I try to use my phone.  It is so aggravating, because it slows every thing down.  Any ideas, please help??????

The ticking clock is a sign of the device processor working.

To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.

If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.

To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.

So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

Re: I get this weird icon (black box with a ticking second hand) HELP!!!!!

Ok I did have a few things open on there (AP, a bible app) the browser is there also, but no active pages.  Should the browser icon disappear after I close (It remains so I thought maybe I had alot of browser windows open or something).  There is also visiual voicemail, which I don't have but it won't let me close it, could that be part of the problem???

No, it will remain in the App Switcher, but as stated, just make sure it is not on an active page.

Your Visual Voice mail will remain open, but it's doubtful it is a problem.

Always, a simple reboot of the device will work wonders.  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

Hey , I use Blackberry Curve 8900 and I constantly get the annoying black box with the clock hands that delay the processing or working of my BB , I tried your previous tip but then I closed everything properly already and it really doesn't stop appearing. What should I do now ?

Your reply is highly needed and appreciated. Thank you.

Sczelle, JSanders's recommendation about the reboot would be your first course of action.  Removing the battery will recover a lot of memory.  Having too much of your memory being used by apps is most likely your problem.
