I'm having a hard time with desktop software with Vista and my Curve 8310

I would really appreciate any help you might have in regards to using the proper software with my curve.  I have the phon version 4.2.170 and platform   I do not have the original install cd.  I tried to install the 4.2 software to no avail.  I have a feeling that I am making a mistake somewhere but am getting really frustrated.  Thanks for any help.  Joe

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I would go with the latest software, 4.6 without Media manager:

Here is the software and installation considerations for Vista:

First we need to clean the machine from the old install:

Cold boot, and proceed:

Install the correct USB drivers:

Blackberry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.6 B13)

  • File size: 16.988 MB
  • Date posted: 15-August-08
  • Download Software

Install and Cold boot the PC.

Download 4.6 without the Media manager here:

Download manual here:

Install  4.6 with these Vista considerations:

1. Right-Click on Command Prompt in Start Menu and choose Run as Administrator
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry\IS71 Connectors\MS Outlook Connector by typing: c:\> CD program      files\research in motion\blackberry\is71 connectors\ms outlook connector

3. Then type in the command prompt, type: regsvr32 MsOutlookConnector.fil

4. If the registration is successful, the following message displays:
DllRegisterSErver in msoutlookconnector.fil succeeded.
5. Close and open Blackberry Desktop Manager to perform the synchronization process again and Outlook will be in the list...

If you receive the error message DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005 - you do not have admin rights. So, it's important that you run command prompt as admin.
