I need help with the 3G/Wi-Fi dillemma.

I just bought a Blackberry Curve and I DO NOT have a data plan. To use internet, I just use Wi-Fi.

The problem is:

I cannot recieve texts when Mobile Network is un-checked. But in the top right corner it shows 3G. Does that mean I am using 3G?

I do not want to pay for data (I would just like to use Wi-Fi and send/recieve texts).

When I go to the Mobile Network settings it says Data Services (with the option of on or off) what do I check off.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

If, but "texts", you mean pure SMS, then you need to talk to your mobile service provider about that as it is 100% part of your voice-level services and has nothing to do with your Data Services at all. Indeed, you may not be able to receive SMS via WiFi alone anyway (since those are delivered via the voice network, not the data network).

On the other hand, if you are talking about some other method of "texts" (e.g., BBM), then that requires a proper BB-level data plan from your carrier...there are no exceptions.

Good luck!
