Fantastic. Glad you're up and running.

As JSanders said, it updates this and that. With each new OS, we are very rarely told what is being improved, but something always is made better.

Thanks.  For what it's worth, battery life seems to be marginally better, surfing, all the motions (pinching, etc) seem to be much more peppier.

Re: Latest 9800 OS: 6.0.0.666

Hi

I have ver 6.0.0.666 in my torch 9800. Just saw your post that new version 6.0.0.668 is released. One clarification on the same, in my current version (6.0.0.666) the software platform is 6.6.0.241 & in the one mentioned by you the software version is 6.6.0.236, which is lower. So, is ot advisable to upgrade or not?

I just confirmed that the 668 verson numbers are correct. the 666 OS is 6.0.0.666, whereas the 668 OS is 6.6.0 instead of 6.0.0 so it is actually higher.

Now, just to throw another bit out there, RIM has released v6.0.0.706. Download OS 6.0.0.706 @ BlackBerry.com

If you have trouble getting the OS download to your device, here was the fun time I had

last night.

I was having a hell of a time getting the OS to download to my Torch. After a lot of searching, I found out why. For some reason, this release from New Zealand has a second vendor.xml file that is loaded in a hidden file. Don't know if it was RIM or Vodafone New Zeland that did this. You will need to go to: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\AppData\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML, and delete it.
Now, some owners had no issues with the hidden file, but I did, so good luck.
I located the file by doing a search for Loader xml, including searching hidden files. I use WinXP, and when my search located the loader file, I just right clicked the file and deleted it.
The download then went without any issues.

Hope this helps with your download.

Post back if you have any questions.

I'm going ask the silly question again.  If this download is from vodafone NZ, will it work with canadian phone operating with Telus?

Sorry for not advising in my las post. The answer is yes. Here are JSanders instructions from the 1st post:

Instructions for installing on the 9800:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Now don't forget that if you have problems downloading the OS to your 9800, follow the instructions in my prior post.

**Also, do not use your Desktop Manager (DM) to download the OS. Since it is not a release from your carrier, your DM will not reconize it. Just keep your DM closed, follow the above instructions and all is good.**

And even though your carrier has not released it, it is still an Official Release from RIM and your warranty will not be damaged.
