If I use the steps you have told me , is there any chance that some glitch can occur in the phone . I mean , is this a tried n tested method .
Its depends , While Updating your device software if power fails and your PC shut down then ?
This loader .exe method is considered more safe then performing an Web based or Over the Air updates .
If you have a doubt then look at this RIM Knowledge Base :
KB29847 : BlackBerry Desktop Software is not required to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Smartphone.
Also , if the update fails , will the phone die or keep running on older OS ?
Mostly it will not fail , but if it fails or you disrupt or discontinue while during the update process then you have to reload the OS again.
So the Choice is your's

You're most welcome .. So go ahead and update your device software. The same method has been used from many years to update our BlackBerry device OS. The Update hardly takes 20 min. if everything goes well .
Try it and let us know if you feel any issue with update, we'll try to help

loader.exe is coming on my screen but when I double click on it a window like things comes on my screen which asks me to add or delete the already present apps on my phone . And when I click next , processing happens for 10 seconds and it shows 'Your device software has been updated' . But when I check my devices software , it shows the old one ie 7.0 . Whats happening? I did exactly same as asked . Also , there was only one 'vendor.xml' and not two .... Please help someone .

This may happen if any VENDOR.XML files is still there , On your PC have you changed your Folder Options to view Hidden files and folders ?
Also if we install a OS for our device model from our Carrier or any other after deleting those Vendor files from our PC, when we Open Desktop Software it will also notify that Update is availble , So please search your C drive for any Vendor files . If you try you will succeed and it does work .

If loader.exe is not offering you the update then it might be because of two reason , first there is another Vendor file that you're unable to locate , secondly if you don't have an active BlackBerry Data Plan / BIS subscribtion on your SIM account .
Inaddition , Can you confirm if you still have the outer cover box that came with your device, If you have it then check that box , there you will find your Carrier name , as you're having problem locating those vendor files so I suggest download the OS from your Carrier itself .

I dont have a BIS plan on my SIM . Secondly , I purchased my device from retailer . So , no option of carrier OS downloading . Moreover my carrier does not have Bold 9900 on its list . And lastly , I found the second 'vendor.xml' file and deleted it but the same scene is happening again . Suggest me what to do .
