The little red star that indicates an email is on, and wont go away. No unopened emails in any account. Have shut down and restarted. No voicemail waiting.
Any ideas on why/how to get rid of it?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
The first thing to try it the battery pull:
No data will be lost when doing the following: pull the battery while the device is ON.
Replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min, see if the problem is fixed.
If the indicator is still there go to the main messages queue, menu key select search:
From the main message queue do a search:
folder: ALL FOLDERS
show: ONLY UNREAD

I would just delete the accounts on the BIS site. You get the email on your laptop yes?
Be careful when you come back regarding the Host Routing Table. You may miss updates
from your carrier and get them from a local carrier. Get a complete backup of the entire
device. When you land, do the following:
Go to options advanced options, Host Routing Tables, click to enter. DO NOT click on any listing.
Press menu key, and select register now. You will get a verification message.
Recreate the email accounts. Then send eservice books,You will get an email per account.
Battery pull, then wait about a 1/2 hour and see if you can sent and receive.
