Losing hundreds of entries into AutoText

I am curious and furious that, when I installed the latest upgrade to BlackBerry OS 6 on my Torch, I lost the hours of work I had put into entering composing shortcuts into AutoText. Can my hard work, and the wonderful shortcuts, be retrieved?  Anyone know the answer?  Is there an answer?

Re: Losing hundreds of entries into AutoText

Have you ever done a backup of the device using the Desktop Software?

If not, the upgrade should have done its own. Search your entire PC for any *.ipd file and see, normally they are saved to the My Documents folder.

If so, run the Desktop Software > Restore, and in your case you want to choose "selected data only" and then click by the AutoText entries to restore only that.

Re: Losing hundreds of entries into AutoText

On a Mac OS 10.6.7, I found no .ipd or *.ipd files on the Hard Drive or in Documents folder. Realize that to upgrade to the latest Blackberry OS 6 two-three weeks ago, I had to do it from within the handheld itself because BlackBerry App World is not compatible with the Mac OS 10. Being new to this sort of thing, I did not run a backup to my Mac (yes, the BlackBerry Desktop Software backup and restore works flawlessly on my Mac) before upgrading.  However, I found an AutoText file with 491 files in Restore from a backup done March 6th, representing most of my work (I codify oft-used long words using just 2-3-4 letters, eg udg for understanding, udb for understandable, dfc for difference, dft for different, etc.).  I restored it as a selected Restore, as you suggested.  Now I again have my lost work.  Hallelujah!

Re: Losing hundreds of entries into AutoText

Here’s the subsequent problem: the list of data to be backed up from my Torch (on BDSoftw) is a list of what is presently on the connected BlackBerry, yet the AutoText item in that list shows 0 records rather than the more than 500 records presently and actually on my Torch.  1. Why is that?  2. Does this mean that none of my newly created records in AutoText are being backed up (a scary thought)?

Re: Losing hundreds of entries into AutoText

anditsung, your AutoText app is nice, however your comment above "its free" is not entirely truthful. It is free for ONLY 20 AutoText entries.
Anything more and the app requires a paid unlock code to your Pro version.
