Lost Phone and Wish to Clear Memory Via Text Message

[ Edited ]

Hello Everyone,

I used to have a Pocke PC phone (hated it) and it did have a feature which I found useful. It had a feature which allowed a user to send a text with specific code/string that would clear the whole phone's memory. Personally the information I have on my phone is much more valuable than the phone itself. Is there a way to do this with the 8300?

No, there isn't any way to do that UNLESS you are on a corpoporate BES account then the BES Admin could issue and wipe device command to the unit.

Well that sucks. Maybe there's an app out there that I can download. A self destruct after 5 incorrect passwords would be OK with me.

Re: Lost Phone and Wish to Clear Memory Via Text Message

that function is already buillt in to every blackberry

as long as you actually setup a password lock

by default 10 incorrect password attempts wipes the device

and if you report it stolen the theif will never get the device actiavted and it becomes a paperweight

There are applications out there for just this purpose... like Roblock.

I recommend them.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

Call your carrier and report it stolen, ask them to do everything they can (typically very little, IMHO). If it was a corporate BB on BES, then tell your BES admin to remote wipe it. If you had some software installed (as discussed above), then you can do whatever that software allows.

If you have none of that and you had no password on the device, then consider all of your data compromised. Change every password you have in the world. Notify all of your contacts that you did not adequately protect their information and it is now in the hands of thieves.

Good luck!
