Lost identification information and integrated emails

Hi,

I have a few problems with my Blackberry 8900. Perhaps someone can help?

1) The personal ID details used for this device have been set by someone else many years ago (it is a business phone) and that person has forgotten what they are. How can I reset my ID? Can I do that without losing information? What are the consequences?

2) The device is set so that emails related to a now defunct email address are what appear under the "email" icon on the desk top, as it were. In order to get my gmail messages, I have to go into the google first, and then into my gmail account, which means I don't get a notification of my gmails. I would like to change that setting so that what appear under this icon are my gmail messages. How can I do that?

3) I have three different gmail addresses. Right now, I have to alternate between accounts (without gmail) and enter different account names and passwords for each account. Can all three be integrated and appear at the same time under that "email" icon on the desk top?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I cannot tell for sure, but if this is BES, then you need to work with your BES admins.

If this is not a BES enabled device, then I recommend that you consider this an ownership transfer situation, in which case this applies:

  • KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone

KB26694 How to change the BlackBerry ID on a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or BlackBerry smartphone

KB16307 Actions performed by the BlackBerry smartphone during the removal of stored user and application data

When you perform the SELLER and BUYER actions in the above KB, you will then be starting over, and can configure your email to display however you wish, and the prior items will be gone.

By default, all messages (email, SMS, BBM, etc.) are put into the main Messages icon/app. Some prefer this "unified messages" approach, others prefer to separate things. Fortunately, the BB provides the ability to split things out according to your desires.

On older OS levels (e.g., within and less than the OS5 level), there was very little control over this split...basically, just being able to split SMS/MMS out of Messages to an icon of their own (controlled by one of the Options settings within the Messages app). But, with later OS levels, more fine controls were provided:

For BES users, your BES Admin can push a BES-only email icon to your device. This solution is free, but must be conducted at the BES server, and will affect all users on that BES server.

  • KB15003 How to create a separate icon on the BlackBerry smartphone for only BlackBerry Enterprise Server messages

If your device OS level (starting within OS5 and above) has the option, you can dictate what shows in Messages:

  • Homescreen > Messages > blackberry_logo.jpg > Options > (Main Message List Settings) or (Inbox Settings) or (Inbox Management)
  • Uncheck what you want to suppress from Messages, enabling a separate icon for those you uncheck

Good luck!
