Now I've replaced it with the same phone but I can't figure out how to access my contacts from my old LOST phone and get them on my new one. I've tried the switch devices wizard, but it tells me to connect the old phone, which i don't have

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
What you need to do is find, on your PC, the IPD file that was created when you backed up. Search your entire hard drive for *.IPD. Then, use that file as the source of a restore to your new BB (choose ONE of these KB's, depending on which version of the RIM Desktop software you already have installed on your PC):
Good luck and let us know!

Use Desktop Manager v. 6, go to Device > Restore.
You might need to locate and navigate to that most recent backup IPD file, load it and select the Address Book to install to your device.

Move your contacts to your sim card. Insert sim card in to your new phone. Go to settings>mail, contacts, calendars and then select import sim contacts. If there are no images on the data card they must be saved on the phone once again copy to data card, connect card to pc copy to pc and then you can transfer contacts from old phone to new phone.
