Mass Storage Device Not Recognized...

I'm running windows XP (Media Center Edition) and back when I was using an 8320, I didn't have this issue... but now that I've got an 8330, my computer refuses to recognize the MicroSD card I've got plugged into my phone. It's literally the same card that was in the 8320, and otherwise everything else works perfectly.

It's listed as an unknown device in my Device Manager, specifically as a "RIM Composite Device."

* I've already uninstalled the BB drivers on my computer and reinstalled them.

* I've already uninstalled DM and reinstalled it - not that I thought it would do anything, but it was worth a shot.

* I've gone to Microsoft's support site and attempted to use the drivers they've got there.

* I've tried disabling the driver in my device manager and tried to force XP to recognize the device. No dice.

Um... that's it! Any suggestions?

Re: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized...

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Please specify the device OS and the capacity of the card.

Can you access the card via Windows My Computer in a card reader?

The options are configured as:

Media Card window ON

Encryption NONE

Mass storage support ON

Auto enable Mass storage when connected YES

What is the listed space available number at the bottom of the Media card screen?

I have attached a media card troubleshooting procedure:

Thanks,

Re: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized...

Eh, sorry. Thought I included that info.

OS 4.5.0.89 (But I've had this issue since 4.3 when I first got the 8330). Haven't got a card reader onhand BUT I can use the microsd card just fine on my phone...just that plugging it into my computer won't let me use it as a Mass Storage device.

Re: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized...

Hi,

If you have the options listed set correctly and went through the procedure, I can only think of two things.

One you are setup on BES and have an IT policy blocking access.

Two the PC doesn't recognize the format of the card. Get a $7.00 dollar card reader, to test if the PC can

read the media card outside of the device.

If you can access a regular flash drive and can't access the media card outside the device, it's the card.

If you can access the card with the reader, it's got to be the device. Based on the fact that you upgraded the

software I would say it's a device hardware problem.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Re: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized...

[ Edited ]

Just an update to this issue.

It's not really a fix, but I got sick of XP Media Center Edition so I did a complete reformat of my laptop and installed XP Pro (as God intended!)Long story short, my computer is recognizing the media card just fine now. I can only assume there was some registry setting or known glitch in my MCE that was preventing the drivers from working like they should.

Anyway, solved! Thanks for helping!
