If by that, you mean you remove your Media Card from your BB and use a card adapter on your computer, then it's possible that you have a hardware level issue with your BB related to the card reader.

On the other hand, if you mean that you use Mass Storage Mode, then things are much stranger.

In any event, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you should try a different test.

  1. Obtain a known good and already BB formatted media card -- use it in your BB and see what happens.
  2. Obtain access to a known good identical BB -- use your media card in it and see what happens.

The result will help identify if it's your card or your card reader that is the problem.

If the result of Safe Mode was that no card is readable in your BB, then you likely have a hardware problem, and need in-person support. If you remain in warranty, then seek support via that. If not, then seek a local (to you) shop with a qualified BB hardware technician to give you an evaluation and estimate.

Good luck and let us know!
