Media card encryption modes

Hi, not really having any issues, but just have some general questions regarding media card encryption:

1) What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a generated device key, vs the device password, vs both a device key and the device password?

2) For a device key, when does the key get generated?

3) Does backing up all device data with the desktop software backup the encryption key as well (i.e.  if my device gets security wiped or I get a new device, would I be able to access the encrypted files on the media card after restoring my device data)?

4) Would there be any issues if I later change the encryption mode, or if I turn off media card encryption and later turn it back on again (e.g.  would the device key get deleted and regenerated again)?

I'm trying to decide which encryption mode I should use to secure my data, but also want to make sure I don't lose the ability to access/decrypt them later.

Thanks for any info.

Re: Media card encryption modes

Hello,

While I don't know the specific answers to your questions, this KB might be useful:

  • KB25484Expectations when encryption is enabled for a media card in a BlackBerry smartphone

You also can search the KBs for more articles that might be useful in your quest.

Good luck!
