I bought the device new from Verizon. The short story is the sales guy registered me but did not set up a username and password.
I broke down and called Verizon. The local store gave me an other phone number to call. I waded through the telephone menu options and after about a 5 minute wait got a guy on the line that looked me up and set up my username and password.
I was able to login and change my Signature.
