My Blackberry device is not recognized by my laptop.

My Blackberry device is not recognized by my laptop. I click on the removable disk icon and it says that I need to insert a disc in that unit. What must be wrong with it?

Hello!

Here is the list of troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

KB02640 Troubleshooting USB connections
KB15486 Top 10 BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry Desktop Manager troubleshooting tips
KB11439 BlackBerry Desktop Software does not detect the BlackBerry smartphone when it is connected
KB00019 No PIN displayed in BlackBerry Desktop Redirector
KB10938 "USB charging current is insufficient" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB01451 How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
KB19717 The BlackBerry smartphone is not detected as a USB Mass Storage Device when connected to a computer
KB16310 Media Transfer Protocol and the BlackBerry Storm smartphone

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).

Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.

Hopefully something there is helpful!

Cheers!

Re: My Blackberry device is not recognized by my laptop.

Similar problem as originally posted. I've tried literally everything in all the articles. The weird thing is that the BB is detected by the BB Desktop Manager (it even asks for my password and shows the device under connection options) and the screen shows synchronization occurring between the BB and computer. I've turned everything off and on, tried different USB ports, checked all the hardware, removed and reinstalled the battery -- everything suggested. What I can't do is detect the BB as an external drive from my computer so that I can transfer files. Windows Explorer detects the "F" drive when I plug I the device, but but, when I click on it, I receive the message: "Please install a disk into drive F."

Anyone have another avenue to try?

Thanks,

Pinguini
