My Torch won't turn on or charge

After I came home from work yesterday I decided to go charge my BB, but unfortunately what would always happen was that whenever I plugged in the charger, a red light would appear to blink on my BB and it wouldn't turn on or work, I then decided to let it charge over night to see if that would do the trick. Later this morning I checked on my Torch again to find out that it wouldn't even turn on still. I tried connecting it to the computer to see if it could charge from there but no luck was found. I then contacted technical support from Rogers to get some help, they first told me to do a quick pull out of the battery and put it back in to see if a reboot would fix the problem, no luck. They then told me to do the same thing, only this time when the red light appears I'd hold the space button so that the BB would boot into safe mode, no luck. He then told me too try to reload the OS of my BB through BB Desktop Manager. Too bad I couldn't even connect my handheld to my computer.

So now I'm asking you guys to see if there's anything else that I could do that would fix my BB. Note that I'd like a way in which I don't need to wipe my BB's memory, since I haven't backed up the data yet(I just bought this 2 days ago). But if I have too, I will.

Re: My Torch won't turn on or charge

Hello

There seems to be a definate fault with your handset, you just need to find out where it is. From what you've explained I can see that you have tried your mains charger and USB so the issue is not with the charger.

If possible could you try using a battery from another Torch? if you don't know anyone with your handset you should be able to try this in the store of one of your providers. This battery swap will show where the fault is, if the handset works with another battery it means your battery is faulty - And if not then it's your handset.

You will need to contact your network provider to arrange repair or replacement of the faulty equipment.

Hope this helps

Re: My Torch won't turn on or charge

Well hard to say sounds like we got a hardware issue. BTW the only way to start a BlackBerry into safe mode would be to start it up and hold the back key. With carriers the rule of thumb you are going to do a thousand useless steps. Battery pul seldomly fixes any issue. Although the clean reload will. That should not be nessicary becuase it is sounding like a hardware problem.

All in all what I would try doing would be to power it down and til to hold the back key to start in safe mode. Which is the arrow inbetween the track pad and end call key ( KB17877). If that does try to see if you can get your BlackBerry to connect to the computer by using this (KB00125). Now from my expierence that may not help connect you but that would be enough to back up your device if we can get it connected to the computer. If all else fails download and install the device software and run the loader.exe( KB04537).

I wish you the best of luck and hope that this is helpful.

Re: My Torch won't turn on or charge

Thank you for the help guys, unfortunately it most definitely is a problem with the BB itself, I've already tried turning on the BB without the battery in it to see if it was the battery that was defective or the handheld itself, well it's the handheld. Luckily for me since I got the BB just 2 days ago and everything looks brand spankin' new. I can just return it back to Rogers and get a new Torch again.

Re: My Torch won't turn on or charge

IMO the F-S1 battery is the probelm. There is an issue with these and nobody seems to want to admit it. I have had the same problem twice now in less than six months I have had to replace the battery. If you let your battery go completly dead this will cause the battry to fail and it will never charge again.

We have 2 torches in the household so I tried the battery from the other one and, nothing. This is so frustrating.

Re: My Torch won't turn on or charge

My Torch has done this a couple of times recently and I think I have discovered a fix. First of all make sure your phone is NOT set to the option for "auto-shut-off"....the issue seems to occur when the phone auto shuts off but fails to auto "On" at the pre-programmed time. Go to: Options/Device/Auto on/off...uncheck the Enabled boxes. Now of course before you can do this you will need to get your phone turned "ON"....I knew it was not my battery b/c I had nearly a full charge before I went to bed...(notice this problem usually happens overnight).....after several failed attempts to turn back on manually (with charger plugged in, without, plugged to computer, etc, etc..... this is what I did...I took the battery out several times and was getting nowhere...then I tried moisting the contacts on the battery, while it was plugged into the computer (this way I could hear the computer recognize the hardware once it powered up)...it may sound ridiculous but it worked. After a minute or two of re-boooting it came back on - then I got a glimpse of the clock/time before it had a chance to re-set to the network time....the time brielfly said 1:00 am which was the exact time my phone was set to auto-shut off....needless to say the first thing I did was was to disable the auto shut-off.
