There have been some issues with the AppWorld services lately...most are reported to be cleared up. Please try again. Also, please try removing and re-installing AppWorld...some have reported that to be helpful.
Also try a hard reset of your BB: Anytime random strange behaviors creep in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

I have a similar issue.
I bought eOffice and was trying to upgrade Fierce Towers (separately). Now the respective icons on My World show "Completing Purchase" and "Starting Download" with the green bars, but nothing is happening, no matter how long I wait.
Recommendation was to reboot, did that, no help. Even uninstalled/reinstalled both apps, no help. Uninstalled/reinstalled App World, still no help.
No idea what to try next......
