My bb 9930 is not working with my SIM and it is unlocked

Hello!

I just received a brand new blackberry 9930 and it is not working with the SIM card I have in the phone. I live in Jamaica and I am using a Digicel SIM card. The original carrier of the phone is Sprint. The phone is unlocked and I have the MSL code and I inserted it and the phone rebooted and nothing changed.

What I see on the main screen of the phone is “SOS” in the top right-hand corner and sometimes “searching for GSM” comes up and then it goes back to SOS and if I try to dial a number it starts to say “the call could not be connected, try again”.

When I go into the “Mobile Network” option it says

Data Services: On

While roaming: On

Mobile Network: DIGICEL

Network Selection Mode: Automatic

Network Technology: GSM/UMTS

Network Mode: 3G & 2G

When I go into the SIM card option it says:

SIM: Disabled

Network: Disabled

Network Subset: Disabled

Service Provider: Disabled

Corporate: Disabled

Please help me to figure out how to get my SIM card to work in my phone, by the way the SIM card works in another blackberry phone so it might not be the SIM card.

Spring phones operate on the CDMA network and it look slike you're trying to connect to GSM.

I don't know if this will work.  Can you check with your carrier?

Re: My bb 9930 is not working with my SIM and it is unlocked

I called Digicel and they said that they're network is able to use phones that are CDMA/GSM but the phone won't work effectively all the time, so it seems as though my money just went down the drain! When I checked the "About Device Versions" in my phone it says "Blackberry 9930 smartphone (3G, CDMA, Wi-Fi)" so my phone might not work with Digicel's network or at all!!

Let me ask some of my friends for additional suggestions. I always recommend checking with the carrier before buying an unlocked device.

Jammy, try setting the network technology to 2G only.

It's doubtful it's gonna work but you can keep trying. Don't know why people but these CDMA network devices for use out of country.

I had it on 2G only for majority of the time, still didn't work!! That's what happens when a person doesn't know the difference in CDMA vs GSM, if I was the one that bought the phone I wouldn't have used Sprint because I know there is always a problem with using Sprint phones in Jamaica, but I wasted my money when I thought buying the msl code would work!!

Thanks for your help guys!

Re: My bb 9930 is not working with my SIM and it is unlocked

Well I'm going through a similar situation. My blackberry bold 9930 came from verison unlocked! My uncle bought it for me its a brand new phone,I live in trinidad but I'm also a digicel customer. I can use the 2g /3g network but it always stays on 2g which is edge which is verrry slow. I'm unable to acess my 3g network atall! It says searching for umts and it fails. So tell me what should I do? Is there a setting I can adjust to get it to work 3g?? Hellppp Smiley Sad

You won't get 3G in that Verizon model on a GSM network. Your uncle bought you then wrong model. You need a 9900 model. Sorry, his mistake.
