My first sync between my new Bold and Outlook 2007 - help please

Hi,

I upgraded the software on the Bold to the latest version v4.6.0.297 and installed the latest DM 5.0.0.11.

I use Outlook 2007 and I want to sync my calendar, tasks and contacts.

1. Should the first sync be a two-way synch, or one-way only, from Outlook to device?

2. Also, I read some posts with users having weird things happen to the time of their appointments - should I uncheck the "update device date and time" option before synching?

Thanks!

If you have no data on the device which you want to keep, then do a one-way sync from Outlook to the device. Otherwise, do a two-way sync.

I haven't heard about any time issues, so I can't speak to that part of your question. I know that I had several all-day appointments (holidays and the like) that got messed up when I went to Ireland (I'm in the US). Don't know what caused that. I never connected to a machine in Ireland.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Er2joe gave some great advice!

Do you currently have any data on the Bold in the calendar, tasks, memos, addressbook?

As Er2joe said If you do you will have to do the 2 way sync.

If not I agree with Er2joe  a one way sync is best from Outlook>>to the device.

I would add one step that will make any trouble shooting easier. Only do one application at a time.

We are dealing with a new device and and new Outlook install. If we do one at a time, if there are problems

we know exactly which application had the bad data. We only have to look at one source as opposed to 4.

Configure the sync for just the calendar first once you are successful pick the address book next, deselect the calendar.

setup the addressbook sync. Repeat until all data is successfully moved to the Bold

As you have verified a successful sync on the Bold use the desktop managers and get a full backup.

Time problems do occasionally occur especially with reoccurring appointments. Most of what I have worked

resulted in the device and Outlook calendar not being timed correctly.

On the Bold open the calendar, select options, then General calendar options Make sure the formatting of the

First day of the week and the start and end of day match exactly to the Outlook settings in Tools options.

Let us know how it goes!

Thank you er2joe and Bifocals!

Bifocals, I love the cautious approach - better safe than sorry.

Good point about the time options within the calendar - will do.

I'll keep you posted.

OK - I just synced the calendar.  Everything seems to have gone OK.  Do I verify that mainly by NOT receiving any error messages?  Does it generate a log, and where would I find it?

Congratulations!

You would have gotten an error message if it had run into a problem.

I usually spot check about three months just to make sure.

Ok one down and three to go, do the address book next. The calendar and the addressbook and usually the

apps with the most errors.

Check back in when you're done!
