My screen isn't working. Please help :(

So here is my problem. my phone fell in the pool about 2 months ago, I let it dry and after a day it was fine again (fine in a matter it did fall in the pool and the battery life was greatly shortened and so on) but other than that it was functioning fine.


2 days ago it got a couple of raindrops and just died on me. I let it dry again, and when I tried to switch it back on, the device didnt want to.


I went and got a new battery. It starts up and everything, but the screen doesnt switch on, so I connected it to the pc to back-up everything to see what I can salvage.


Now my problem is, I have to turn of the wireless sync from my device to complete the back-up, but I can't use the device because the screen doesn't work.


Is there anyway I can do this from the PC so that I can save all my contact numbers and so on?

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already got an answer elsewhere, but just in case...

From what you describe, I doubt that you have properly followed the guidance in this FAQ:

Doing this properly, completely, and immediately is critical to increasing the chances of success; using dry rice and waiting the maximum recommended time is critical, and I see nothing in what you posted to indicate that you did so. Applying power to your BB between it getting wet and doing this process reduces the chances of success. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between.


From what you describe, your BB is now totally unusable...and the things you need to do require you to be able to in some way interface directly with the device, which you cannot do. Perhaps if you do the above actions, you may get a chance to do so. If not, then refer to this old saying:

  • There are two kinds of computing device users -- those who have lost data, and those who will

You sadly have likely migrated from the latter to the former. Like insurance, backups are neither a reactive nor an optional activity. RIM provides multiple FREE methods to conduct backups to protect yourself from exactly this situation...choosing to not proactively use them means, well you know what it means.
