Re: My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

I just had a similar problem with my contact list. I have a Yahoo email account plus my corporate email account through an enterprise server. This morning an email was sent from my Yahoo account to everyone on my Blackberry contact list, as well as everyone on my home email address book.  I do not have my work contacts on my home computer & I don't have my home contacts on my Blackberry. I have read through this entire post looking for an answer. Looking for clues.

The emails were sent from the Yahoo account (on it's email server, not your home PC or BlackBerry), by a 'bot' which runs around sending from any available username/password combination it finds. Your account really wasn't 'hacked', just guessed.

Change your Yahoo account password for safety.

Re: My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

I understand they were coming from the Yahoo account & I have changed my password. That doesn'y answer my question reagrding how access was made to my contact list on my Blackberry. Any clues?

My guess is that it accessed your contact list on your Yahoo account, like I said (or thought I did).

Your BlackBerry contacts sync to your Yahoo account.

Thanks. I didn't realize when it synced it added my BB list to my Yahoo list. Is there a setting I can change to keep that from happening?

Re: My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

I've had a similar issue as many others described.  My 'hacked' email is an aol acct.  When this first happened, i quickly google searched and did the first thing i saw recommended: changed my aol email password.  That was about a week ago, and on three separate occasions since, my blackberry email has been flooded with "Mail Delivery Subsystem Returned mail: see transcript for details" emails and then emails from my contacts shortly thereafter saying "Hey bud, either youve been hacked or tough times and you took on a 2nd job spamming for viagra!"

Why aren't the emails stopping?  How can i make them stop?  Is it time to get an iphone?

Sure, and your spam emails will continue regardless of the mobile device you have. What's happening has nothing to do with the phone in your pocked.

Re: My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

I have a different Blackberry model but noticed that whenever I updated my password for my email account, and then updated it on my phone, within 1-2 minutes, my account would show an unauthorized login from a different country. I looked up the IP address from the unauthorized login and it was Research In Motion's IP address for their Ontario, Canada location.
