I have also been having the same problem and I tries your test. Once I squeezed as you suggested, all the sound came to my 9000 Bold.
Thanks for the info. Do I need to do anything else?

Reading through this thread leaves me with a really bad feeling about my bold. I've had it for about 14 mos & noticed it has been getting quieter. This past week I lost all sound at all. I managed to get this working again by not just pulling the battery (while on & keyboard locked), but also reseated the extra memory chip I got with it. Perhaps this was concidental.
However, I fail to understand why someone would need to physically disassemble and repair a design defect just to have a usable device again.
When I got this at AT&T, my wife was talked into an iPhone. She was initially (and very understandably) upset with the limitations that AT&T placed on use of MMS/text messaging on her phone.
Perhaps I should consider changing not only to a different platform entirely, but also to defect to Apple as my wife has.
In the meantime, I will probably find myself looking to expanding the foam block to at least get past the 2 year agreement time. This list has been extremely enlightening - thank you all!

This works, thanks. RIM when I spoke to the rep did not acknowledge there was a problem - I had the same problem with 3 consecutively replaced blackberry 9000 bold

I purchased a Bold in August 2009 for $300. By February or March, AT&T had to replace it because I couldn't hear the speaker. Tomorrow, I'm bringing this one back, and they'll probably give me another one. At this point, I have no confidence that my THIRD Bold won't have the same problem in 4-5 months, and by that time the warranty will be expired. For $300, I should be able to at least hear my phone when it rings. I agree that BlackBerry's unwillingness to recognize this is a major, consistent problem is sealing its fate: When my third Bold craps out on me in 4-5 months, I'm buying an iPhone.

I faced the same problem 3 times (different units) in Blackberry Bold. Dont you guys think Blackberry can be sued over this as they have shipped faulty units to all of us?
