Not Sure Which Version of Software to Download

Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong forum. I had just received a Blackberry Bold 9000 from my friend very recently, and I'm unsure of how to manage it. It's my first ever smartphone and I'm completely lost.

I want to update it to the highest version I can, since it's been running very slowly. It's currently at  v4.6.0.304 (Platform 4.0.0.247) I don't understand what the platform version is.

But before I can even do that, I understand that I'm supposed to download the desktop software for my PC... Problem is I'm not sure which desktop software to download, seeing there are versions Software v6.1,
Software v6.0.2, Software v6.0.1, Software v5.0 and v5.0.1.

So, which version of desktop software should I download to update my Bold 9000? I'd appreciate any help I can receive. Thank you very much.

Re: Not Sure Which Version of Software to Download

Hey Natasha26,

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

The BlackBerry® device software is determined by your service provider, you can check for the latest version available for your BlackBerry smartphone here: http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

The BlackBerry® Device Software used would be the latest version available it is compatible with BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later, here are the release notes: http://bbry.lv/wcGuMZ

The Blackberry Desktiop software can be downloaded here: http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW

I hope this answers your question.
Thank you.
