PIN Suspended / De Activated by RIM

I was given a BOLD that used to belong to a RIM employee in Canada.  When I tried to assign the PIN and IMEI on my BIS I got the message "The device is suspended deactivated".

My carrier to the best of my knowlege cannot release the PIN or reactivate it.  Is there any solution to this problem?  I got the phone unlocked thinking that would help.

Likely a pre-production unit which he was not to sell or giveaway, who knows.

Either way, you can contact RIM from your carrier, and they will likely not reactiviate it.

Or, why not ask your friend the RIM employee to do so, lol?

Thanks for the replies.  It looks like this phone will be useless for data.  I think RIM charges you $50 just to talk to an agent.

Well try calling your carrier and they can escalate it to them for free.

Re: PIN Suspended / De Activated by RIM

I'm wondering if Rogers would do anything like that for me.  I've read so many posts about this issue.  I've seen answers like you have to wait until some carrier in the states offers the phone, call RIM, call carrier.  I'm just wondering if there has been a successful result.

Re: PIN Suspended / De Activated by RIM

arghhh, I think the answer was posted.

Call RIM through your carrier. Ask them escalate the call to RIM. No charge. If you call RIM direct, you pay.

BUT let me warn you again, it has been suspended for a reason: pre-production unit, stolen, unauthorized use, but they rarely get reinstated. They do, just it is rare.

Only RIM can do it. It has nothing to do with not being offered in the states; for one reason, the 9000 Bold has been offered in the states since last fall.

And again, can't your friend do anything for you? Why would he give you a suspended device?
