Password has changed, old one wont work

As it sits right now I am on attempt 10/10.  I am not sure what has happened. I was attempting to install a program through Blackberry World via the computer. I got to the part where the computer asked me to plug my phone into the computer. I then selected the PIN number for my phone and the computer said I have the password on and needed to enter it.  Well I tried my password and it failed, tried a few more time and it failed. I disconected my phone and tried to gain entery but the password window was no longer **** out the password but was actually using letters and numbers.


Just prior to that I did a sync on my Blackberry.


Any ideas what has gone wrong or changed?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

The password prompted for by the computer and the password you assigned to lock your BB are indeed the same password. But, what I suspect is that you've got a mixture of different characters in your device password, and perhaps have not noticed how you must enter those on the BB keyboard. For instance, if your password is

  • ab123

and you enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > 2 > 3

the actual result will be

  • ab1er

You must enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > ALT > 2 > ALT > 3

in order to wind up with ab123. So, in this example, while on the BB keyboard you think you are typing ab123, you are actually typing ab1er.

On your BB, when you type your password, you should get just a moment where each character is shown in the clear before it changes to an *. Watch closely the next time and you may see a surprising result. It will be those exact characters that you must type on your PC keyboard as that's actually your password.


Regardless of entry method, you must get it right this time...there is no bypassing this password, as it is a critical part of the reason that BBs are the most secure mobile devices available. If you fail, your BB will be wiped clean, and there is no way to stop that.


The reason you are seeing the password in the clear now is as a "helpful" step...after 5 failed attempts, the BB stops masking with * so that you can see the result of what you type and be sure you are getting it right. But, again, from what you say, the entry method above (using ALT, SYM, etc. at the proper time) is what I suspect.
