Phone calls disconnect

I have recently purchased a Blackberry Bold, its great apart from during calls it continually disconnects the call.  I’m with the network Orange and have other phones that don’t do this in the same location; I have tried it many times.  In fact I now no longer use my new blackberry as a phone because it keeps cutting the calls, its very frustrating.  It happns mainly when i'm in my apartment.  Do you have any suggestions?

Well -- two thoughts come to mind --


When I am in Europe, I stay at a friends apartment. Until I got a 3G phone I always had service in the apartment. When I got 3G phones (an iPhone and the BB Bold) neither one gets a signal inside the apartment, where my older phones always used to. That lends itself to the theory that the signal isn't strong enough.


But the second thought is -- if other 3G phones connect in the same area, then you might want to have your Bold looked at by Orange - it might have a radio receiver problem (i.e. antenna reception problem).

imre--you might try an upgrade to the OS. Many have experienced your same issue and find better connection with the later OS release.

In many parts of the country (on Orange / AT&T) many "testers" for this device have experienced the same behavior.  It's not the network but the device.  We have all installed the latest "beta" firmware v4.6.0.154 and many test users get the dropped calls and then others in different parts of the country, No issues.  Other reactions are the device will go from 3G - to - EDGE - to - GSM - to no Network and then come back online, reversing the steps mentioned prior....this is RIM's first attempt at 3G, so give them a little time and they will figure it out....just wish they could figure out the poor battery life compared to older models (8820, 8800, 8700, 8320/8310, etc)

First of all, thank you kindly everyone that has responded with information and advice thats supported me with this issue.  Last night i upgraded the operating system, since doing this the phone has not cut out during calls however i'm going to trial it throughout the week before i report back with an all clear.
