Phone number in the carrier line indicator

[ Edited ]

Hello everyone!

I'm writing for a friend of mine, who owns a BlackBerry Curve 9300 with OS 6.

One day she suddenly saw a phone number after the name of the carrier; it was only once so I can't take a screenshot, but it was something like this:

Vodafone - 333******* (with numbers instead of *)

As soon as she saw this, she tried to check the network options and instead of the usual carrier there was written the same phone number, followed by @@@@.

The phone number disappeared once she tried calling its owner, and she never saw it again.

Do you have any idea about how this could be possible? what could have happened?

We searched everywhere but couldn't find any hint.

In the home screen, just above the clock, where you usually find the name of the network you're connected to.

She found this strange so she checked in the settings, where she read the same phone number but followed by 4 "@".

Oh ok, yea I have seen that oddly enough before, and it went away.

I would not be alarmed.

Re: Phone number in the carrier line indicator

You think so?

Do you maybe have an explanation of how this could happen?

Because we asked several people (that work in this business, of course) and not even one of them had even the slightest clue about what we where talking about, let alone giving an explanation.

Re: Phone number in the carrier line indicator

It's normally happened to me when I was roaming off my network, in the past.

I just haven't seen it in quite a while.

Re: Phone number in the carrier line indicator

But she was in her living room, with 3G on and WiFI off, so a pretty normal situation. This is also one of the reasons we find what happened really strange.

Re: Phone number in the carrier line indicator

If she sees it again, as her to make a screen shot.

And to call Vodafone, since that's her carrier, they would likely explain it.

That's for sure!

About calling the carrier, already done so many times right after she saw this strange thing, and no one ever even knew what we were talking about.

This forum is like our last chance to understand something more, since it seems like BB doesn't offer technical support to non-business customers.

Re: Phone number in the carrier line indicator

Sure, BlackBerry offers support to non-business customers.

Vodafone should escalate any issue they cannot resolve to the BlackBerry Tecnical support -- don't let them say they can't. They can and will if you ask.
