Re: Phone wont boot up

[ Edited ]

So far the answers here kindly suggested do not solve my variant of the problem ("JVM Error 517    Reset").

For me, the blank screen with the tiny message (see in bold in brackets at end of my 1st sentence) has occurred when I plugged my one-month-old BlackBerry Torch 9860 into the mains to recharge it with electricity, after I had run its battery flat.  I have tried clicking the central, square 'Enter' button, hoping thereby to 'reset' (Heaven knows what!).   After going black and blank for 10 seconds, the mobile phone seems to be re-booting, showing on its screen the BlackBerry name and dotty logo, then adding a time/progress white line creeping left to right (as one looks at it) across the bottom of the screen.  Unfortunately, each time the line only creeps 2/3rds of its way across, before it stops, pauses, and then the screen goes black and blank again. Once more it displays the aforementioned "JVM Error 517   Reset".

I thereby seem to be unable to access ANY of the menus, icons or software (as suggested by other contributors).

       SC

LATER:    My one-month-old BlackBerry Torch 9860 is probably terminally "kaput"  (see my previous query above)

Reading the official BlackBerry pages, I found this:

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB19442

... ... and it seems to tell me I needed a completely new mobile-phone

...  ...  and hints that all my data (past e-mails, contact details, notes and past text messages) may be unrecoverable.

Someone please tell me that I've misunderstood, and all will soon be working correctly.

                 S.C.

P.S.  I didn't spot any indication from RIM of shame, regret or promise to do better in the future.

Re: Phone wont boot up

Thank you, Wolf359.

As you kindly asked, I've repeated my plea for help on a new thread in the area classified as "General Support>Smartphones>BlackBerry Torch> "  :

"JVM Error 517   Reset"    My Torch won't boot up or re-charge"       m-p/1542323

I'd much appreciate your advice, which I may have to print off in order to show it to the techie in the shop which sold me the contract for this mobile phone.   S.C.

Re: Phone wont boot up

when you connect to the Desktop Software it doesn't take a stable connection to reinstall your software?

If that is case, remove your battery and keep it out when you connect to the Desktop Software. You will get a pop up that the device can't connect and there should be Retry, Update and Cancel buttons. Select Update and you will then be able to reinstall the current device software version.

When the load is progressing, you will see a step that says "Wait for device initialization". At this point, insert the battery and the reload should complete.
