PlayBook will not sync with PC via USB

I am running Windows XP and using Blackberry Playbook.  The plybook connected at first and partially synced.  I tried using a machine running Windows 7 and the same.  The Blackberry Playbook says it is connected, but it is not connected properly at the PC end. 


I swapped the Blackberry at the shop and the new one synced fine, but later the same sympton on both Windows XP and Windows 7.


I can't believe that there are two dodgy blackberry playbooks.  I can't believe that there are two dodgy PCs.  I can only assume that it is either the playbook software for the PC or the driver.  I am really frustrated and have wasted hours on this. 


Any ideas please.  (don't suggest upgrading to IPAD :-)  )
