I Found a solution
After the Uddate caused the final step to hang during the Organiser Sync "Preparing sync preview" , I Removed Desktop manager using add/remove programs & rebooted my PC
Then I downloaded the install file from Blackberry's web site, then I configured the sync to replace data on the handheld = "One Way to your device only"(outlook is my primary source for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks & memos & that data is complete)
1 way sync worked well.
Then I changed the data sync settings back to Two way between your device and your computer.
It has worked very well ever since

I have tried downloading from the Blackberry site, replaced the data on the Bold 9900, one way and this works everytime. Back to two way syncing, this works sometimes, and then hangs "Preparing Sync Preview". I have tried this on 2 desktops, and 1 Macbook Pro all running w7 64bit, same consistent issue.
Only consistent solution is to uninstall v7, and revert back v6 bb38. I have done this on all 3 computers now with no problems. I have also removed the update prompt too now, until BB get their software right!
This is my first post, and I heavily rely on being able to sync quickly without issues. So thanks everyone for your input!!!

Have just updated to Blackberry Desktop 22.214.171.124 and am using a Bold 9780
The synchronization process fails, stalls, freezes at the Preparing Sync Preview step.
Have done the following:
- removed and reinstalled Desktop software
- rebooted PC and the phone
Using Dell i7 PC with 12 gig ram Win 7 64 bit with all updates installed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
This has "SOLVED" under the post ...

I am having the same sync problem. I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 with Office 2010 Pro (both are patched to date). I tried uninstalling version 7 of DM, reinstalling version 602.b045 and the sync began hanging again. Tried doing a Outlook to Device overwrite, using the built-in upgrade tool to bring it up to version 7 and no change.
I had sync problems when upgrading from 602_b045 to 610_b038 and had to wipe my phone and downgrade DM. I figured this time (almost a year later) that RIM would not make the same mistakes with a bad upgrade.
After being a BB fan for so many years, I might even pay the early upgrade fee and get a Samsung with Android instead...heck, even an iPhone. I've had it with RIM in both the personal space as well as the business (BES) space. Never thought I would ever start recommending Android or iOS to all of my clients, but here we are. RIM...you're killing whatever fan base you have left. Don't you want to stay in this business?
