Problem while updating OS 7.0 to 7.1 in Blackberry Curve 9360

Whenever i try to update my bb curve 9360 os 7.0 to 7.1 desktop manager shows "only active blackberry service subscribers can update software". Earlier desktop manager never showed this type of problem but why now?

Re: Problem while updating OS 7.0 to 7.1 in Blackberry Curve 9360

That requirement has been around, actually, for a couple of years.

All you need to do is to turn off any internet connection to the PC, any WiFi connection or DLS cable, unplug it and try again, IF you have downloaded the OS file to the PC and are installing the OS manually.

If you're updating via the Desktop Manager, try this instead:

First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." (You might have another Vendor.xml file hiding on your computer. Open Windows Explorer and under the Organize button (on Windows 7, there are similar tools for Vista and XP) click on "Folder and search options." Under the View tab, make sure that your computer is set to show hidden folders and files. Once you've done this, search your C:\ drive for "Vendor.xml".)

3. Remove or unplug any DSL cable and turn off any internet connection to the PC.
4. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

**Starting with the later OS6 releases, there are now three copies of VENDOR.XML
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader (for 32-bit Windows XP/Vista/7)
==========OR============
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader (for 64-bit Windows Vista/7)
C:\Documents and Settings\*name*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
C:\Documents and Settings\*name*\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
You can also just search for VENDOR.XML. Make sure that you choose ADVANCED SEARCH and include hidden files. It should show the file in at three locations. Delete every copy that it finds.

Then you have not either:

  1. downloaded AND installed the OS file
  2. or deleted the Vendor.xml file(s)

Re: Problem while updating OS 7.0 to 7.1 in Blackberry Curve 9360

I have installed latest Bb desktop manager, installed latest OS 7.1 on my pc for bb curve 9360 from my carrier from bb device software download site. Then deleted all the VENDOR.XML files from specified locations from C drive, removed my dsl internet cable from pc.
Then also after clicking loader the application loader wizard doesn't show installing software files & when I do it from desktop manager by clicking update option. It shows dialog "There is no update available" & at bottom of the dialog there is "View other versions" by clicking that it shows "7.1.0.716 software in pc" with a little * (star) on it. At bottom is written- *active blackberry service subscriber can only update this software

Previously I have downgraded & upgraded my device software many times this type of problem never came in which it requires active bb service for upgrading.

I am pissed off from this active service subscriber dialog

Try the version located at this link.

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/contactFormPreload.do?code=5807A685D1A9AB3B599035BC566C...

Remember to delete the vendor.xml files again.

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

Note: Some users might worry they will void their device warranty by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to worry about. Please read more information on that here: http://www.port3101.org/power-users/296-blackberry-os-upgrade-including-betas-myths-dispelled.html

Re: Problem while updating OS 7.0 to 7.1 in Blackberry Curve 9360

I got the solution:
Any blackberry application in bb which is not properly installed can create such a problem in desktop manager.

in my curve 9360 appworld is not properly installed. i have to update it 1st by using any bb service plan, before installation of new os without any active service in mobile from desktop manager. little things in bb can create such a big problem.

this solution i got from here: my friend has curve 8520 he doesn't have any active service on it. but in his bb all the bb softwares are properly installed. when i clicked update from desktop manager it simply shows what os software is installed on pc & asks for updating without a * (star) on it. * (star) means "active service subscriber can only update this software".

So i have to update 1st my appworld from bb data plan. After complete installation of appworld. i can update my os in future without any service plan Smiley Very Happy
