Problem with Google Maps

Hi all,


I have a problem with Google Maps on my phone and haven't been able to solve it. I've had this problem ever since I've owned the phone (second hand from my brother) and any help would be much appreciated.


When I launch Google Maps, after about 10 seconds or so a pop-up appears which says : "This application requires a data connection, and some BlackBerry devices require reconfiguration to work properly. Please visit www.google.com/gmm on your computer for more info", followed by another message which doesn't appear long enough for me to read (something about "Network Unavailable"). After this, Google Maps closes.


If someone could tell me what the problem is and how to solve it, that would be great.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!


Since this is a 2nd hand device, please check this:

  • KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone

If all Seller steps were not completed correctly, then this BB may not yet be of any real use for you. For example, if the BB was associated with BES and they did not properly cleanse the BB of the IT Policy, then that could be blocking it.


Before we proceed any further, please clarify:

  1. Have ALL of those above steps have been done?
  2. Was this a BES-enabled BB?
  3. If so, does there remain an IT Policy or was it properly cleansed?

  4. Do you have your own SIM and full BB-level data plan on this BB?
  5. Are other BB-specific services working fine?

I actually didn't check all that - that could be the problem, indeed. I suppose that might also be why I can't change the email address... I'll check that. Thanks!
