Ok, I have the Blackberry Torch 9800 and it is out of warranty.
The problem I'm having is this:
The phone works perfectly fine when it is compact.
When I slide the screen out, the backlight turns off at full extension.
The screen is still on, the keyboard works, and so does touching the screen. The only issue is that the backlight turns off.
If I physically slide the screen down a fraction of an inch (a little bit more than 1/8th of an inch) the backlight will turn back on.
I'm hoping it is pulling on the ribbon or something, but I'm hesitant to just start tearing my phone apart hoping to fix it.
Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?

No, a battery pull doesn't help at all.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is more of a hardware issue than a software one.
I planned on taking the phone apart to check the ribbon, but I don't have the proper size torque head screwdriver.
I found a website with disassembly instructions and it says to use a #5 but my #5 didn't fit.
