Problem with the mute button

So I was playing songs on my blackberry 9700 when I wanted to pause it the button functioned properly but somehow after some time stopped working for some strange reason.

I also did restart the phone considering that it might be a software error, but did not help.

Kindly advise on how to trouble shoot the problem or should I go to a blackberry store to get it fixed.

If a battery pull did not do the trick (and I hope your phone was powered on when you pulled the battery, otherwise it won't do anything to help you), reloading your OS is the next logical step.

To do this, plug your phone into your PC via USB and open BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Once your phone has been recognized, click Device at the top of the software then Restore from the drop-down menu.  Choose the most recent restore point and reload it.  That should do the trick.  If not, you should go back to your carrier for replacement.
