Query regarding phone unlocking

Hello Everyone,

I have a phone that is locked for AT&T carrier, and I want to unlock it to be used in an Indian carrier. Will upgrading the OS of device using OS from an Indian Carrier do the trick? Or I have to get unlocking codes from AT&T or some other media to unlock the phone?

Please direct me if this topics been discussed earlier as well.

Thanks and Regards,

Basilio

AT&T may give you the unlock code for free as long as you have an active account with them for 90 days and are not in arrears. And they may not, it's all according to the customer service you get on the phone.

But, regardless, whether from ATT or a private unlocking vendor, it must be unlocked to work on another carrier other than ATT if the device is branded to ATT.

To determine if your BlackBerry is already "unlocked" or not:
1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.
2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.
    * If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx, 81xx, 91xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.
3. Look for Network in the list.
4. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier.

If you need to pruchase an unlock code for your BlackBerry for use on a
carrier other than the one to which it is branded, check out BlackBerry
Unlocks

They are trustworthy and reputable.
