To update to the latest email setup application try this KB26055

As of today the latest version is 6.11.0419.0755

I've taken a cynical approach, now I do not update anymore what "ain't broke..." thanks RIM...

Didnt work for me. I just updated last night and now my phone is completely unusable!  the tmo store was no help. Told me to get on crackberry.com and find out how to reset the phone. Now the Mac desktop software doesnt even see a phone to allow me to even erase and start again.  What happens now if the upgrade killed the phone!?

The update won't kill your phone but you need to reload the OS. Remove the battery et connect the usb wire to your mac and launch the desktop software.

The operation on the mac is not as simple as that on the PC.

 

Once my phone's OS went *poof*... i worked on the phone on my mac for the next 8hrs till the sun shines and I was ready to contact RIM and give them a piece of my mind.

 

Reading forum and talking to some bb gods here, made the PC operation seem very simple so I tried it on a PC.  When i connected it to a PC (which does not have my backup files at that time)... I went to blackberry os site...

However, it kept telling me that I already have the updated OS, eventhough the OS on my phone is totally bad.  So I did a downgrade to OS 5.0... after which, I upgraded back to OS 6.0, it doesnt have any of my data and all... so went back to my mac and restore data.

Hello LostOzone,

 

I am not sure if you are on mac or PC... but the operation for mac and PC are worlds apart.

 

I guess RIM never bothered to improve on their mac software being their rival in smartphones and such.

I wouldn't recommend that. I would do instead is borrow someone's PC for an hour, and just "upgrade or downgrade the OS" from blackberry site... its just a a problem of email setup doing something to OS file and not being successful at it. I've read of several people who had no problem during update.

I just feels really bad, bec mac-users can't fix the problem on a mac. I have not read of any mac-users being able to fix this ... its a 15mins operation on a PC.

RIM really did not improve their mac desktop manager, quite disappointing, but I guess they see Apple as a rival... not as a partner in technological innovations.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.  Im on a mac and youre right, the quick fix for pc is anything but easy for the mac.  My phone is completely inaccessible so i cant do anything with it, the DM does not recognize that there is a phone even connected to the computer. Tried 2 macs, multiple wires, and usb ports all to no avail.   Hoping to get a phone exchange at this point.

I understand your frustration, and I've been there.  See if you can borrow a PC for 15mins.

 

As soon as the OS is repaired, your mac will 'see' the bb again and you will be able to do a restore... I trust you backup your data?  :-)
