Hello I have numerous problems with the Desktop software - mainly its failure to connect. I've downloaded the latest versions etc etc. Today I had some behaviour I haven't seen before:

I plugged in my Blackberry

The Desktop software started but took a while longer than usual to connect

After about ten seconds I got "Sync All" in the bottom right-hand corner suggesting that a connection had been made

However when I click on the Files tab I get the message "A problem occured while attempting to connect to your Blackberry device".

On the blackberry itself the following message was displayed

Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(113) is not responding: process terminated

After this it is not possible to reconnect to the Blackberry.

I would say that about one in 20 attempts to plug my Blackberry in to the PC fail, in the past I usually got the "white screen of death" on the phone. The only solution is to pull the battery, which is pathetic.

It seems to me there is a simple solution which is that the comms software in the Blackberry should be able to recognize that the USB cable has been unplugged and should close down gracefully in that event.


I like most of the features on this phone and when the Desktop software is working, it synchronizes with Outlook very well. I also like to transfer files between the PC and the device when it works, but the communications software is unacceptably poor.


Also, I cannot believe that the Desktop software doesn't have a facility to send an SMS message from the PC. This was a very handy feature of my Nokia back in the day before they went mad and saddled us with a truly appalling system called OVI...

I would suggest performing a backup of your BlackBerry® smartphone then reloading the software as shown in the article below:
