Receiving handsfree calls while using media player via in-car AUX cable

I want to use my Pearl 8110 as a MP3 player while it is connected to my TomTom 540 for handsfree calling.  I'm connecting the phone to the car stereo via AUX cable.  When a call is received the music pauses, as expected, and the Tom Tom shows the incoming call options.  However, when I accept the call, I can't hear them and they can't hear me!

This very frustrating as I travel over 1000 mile each week and I am happy with each separate function but this causes serious problems when they come together!

The work around is to unplug the AUX cable before answering the call and then to reconnect the AUX cable when the call is finished.  However doing this at 70 (ish!!) mph on a motorway is far from ideal.

Surely there must be some way for the phone to separate music via AUX and calls via Handsfree device?!

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!
