Ringtone (MP3) Specification

I searched the forum for this info, but came up empty.

What is the specification for the MP3 ringtone, i.e., allowed bitrate and mono/stereo?

Thanks.

Re: Ringtone (MP3) Specification

Seems like the decision is your's which will then dictate the number of MP3s you can store on your device.

The preloaded Ringtone, FurElise.aac is 61.1 KB. It doesn't say at what bitrate or if it's mono or stereo. It does seem to be the largest preloaded ringtone file.

Since bitrate, etc. affects the size of the file it may then just be a personal choice.

My MP3s are recorded in stereo and at 192 kbps. I hope this gives me good quality while also providing me with abundant storage capacity. They work great.

But then what do I know, I run into burning buildings.

But at least you run into burning buildings with the appropriate gear.

Re: Ringtone (MP3) Specification

The 8830.

I therefore take it that they have not made the ringtome playback specs any different than normal MP3 playback of music.

For a ringtone, 64kHz mono would be good enough.  Plus keeping it short Smiley Happy

Thanks.

 Mr.Video

Here's a thread with some more info on making your own ringtones.

Since my voice mail kicks in after 4 rings, I just use my music as is, as a ringtone. Plus I'm too lazy to edit.

Re: Ringtone (MP3) Specification

I've discovered that it was extremely easy to do.  No need to go out and get other tools, when I already had what I needed.

I have a really old sound editing program called CoolEdit2000.  It was bought out and quickly buried.  In any event, I just bring in the audio file, edit out the part I don't want, mix to mono and up the gain such that clipping does occur, but not to the point of distortion.  Then convert to 64kbps.

Makes for great ringtones, and keeps them small.

Is it a free software? Can you provide me the link or how can I get it?
