SMS Text

OK, I have had this 8310 for about a week. I thought I had everything figured out.  I received a message asking me to send a text reply to a 5 digit number.

First I assume I can't use Blackberry Messages because I have no BB contacts and all this is asking is to send to the 5 digit number.  So what do I use SMS?  HOW!   1) is my number my 10 digit phone number  2) how do I get to the correct composition screen and 3) where do I  enter the recipients 5 digit number?

Tell me all I need to know about text messaging - I will appreciate it!

Also am I supposed to have a 5 digit number?  If not why is the sender using one?  It's what you see on TV all the time - text so and so to 66545 (example).

Re: SMS Text

5 digit numbers are commonly used by commercial businesses such as game shows or voting lines. I use it for a google service the number is 46645. So when you go into your text messages and click on compose sms. Then your address book will come up. On the very top of your list it says (use once). Click this and type in the 5 digit number. The click the trackball. You can then type your message and send it. If you need any more help I will be happy to assist you.
