Screen fails to light up

I have a new 9800 torch and have my previous holder with magnetic  button in the flip part of the holder.

I have notice a problem with my new torch when I go to use it i.e. slide up the phone or try to make a call, the screen remains dark, I can just about see the screen but can't do anything. I have pressed the lock and unlock button menu button in fact I press everything and nothing happens.

It appears the phone just comes back to life after about a minute or two. A real problem

Re: Screen fails to light up

Hello timhedgley and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Is this holster designed for the BlackBerry Torch or did you use it with another BlackBerry device?

If you reboot your BlackBerry by removing and reinserting the battery, does the screen come on when removed?

Thanks!

I'm interested to hear if you have solved this problem?  The President of our division is having this exact same problem and we're stumped!

Hello ned4spd8874,

Do they use an authentic BlackBerry holster designed for the Torch? For how long does the screen remain dark once removed from the holster?

If the device is rebooted by doing a battery pull, does it make a difference?

Thanks.

Re: Screen fails to light up

He is using his old holster it turns out.  Sometimes, the screen will stay like that for 5-30 minutes.  He said that he would normally just remove the battery to get it back to a working state.

So, do you think it's the holster that's causing the issue then?  Has something changed in these phones where the holster would throw something off?  Sorry, I'm not well versed in BlackBerry's so I don't understand why that would cause issues is all.

Hello timhedgley,

Each case is specially designed for each BlackBerry. You don't need to get a new one, however, since the case you are using was for a Bold and not a Torch, it will not go into standby when holstered.

Hope this helps Smiley Happy
