Slider error?

When I slide my torch 9810 open the device doesnt react, the screen stays black. When i press the unlock button it all works but Im not able to use the qwerty keyboard. I think the device doesnt recognize the slider opening. Is there any warrenty or fix for this problem?

Hi and Welcome to the Community...and apologies for the delay in replying!


First off, I would check your OS level:

  • KB23393 How to check the model number and version of installed BlackBerry device software on a BlackBerry smartphone

And compare that to what is presently available:

If you are not up to date, then you should do so. You may also need to use a different carriers OS package just in case your carrier has not released something newer that may have a fix for this (no guarantee, just a theory!).


You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:

  1. Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
  2. If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
  3. If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
  4. Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
  5. If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents

When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.

If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.



If it is hardware, then you need to check your warranty provisions, which would have been provided to you at your time of original purchase. RIM provides a 1-year manufacturers warranty to the original purchase who buys via authorized reseller channels, but RIM does not directly service any warranty. You need, as I say, to check your specific documentation to determine what your warranty provisions are. If you don't have that, then contact your original place of purchase for guidance. Sorry, but the methods can vary by region (sometimes warranty is serviced by the place of purchase, other times by authorized service centers, etc.), so no one here can give you specific advice...your original purchase documents are the authoritative source of information for you.
