Sometimes BBM fails to open a chat

If a chat window is not already open for a particular party, their first message may result in a chat window that cannot be opened.

 

If the party has sent more than one entry of text, all messages will be lost in this case. The solution is to End Chat via the Options menu and open a new chat before the other party types anything further.

 

If a chat window is always left open for the party, the issue is never seen.

 

This is under OS 5.0.484 using BBM 5.0.0.57.

You failed to state what model device you're using, there are a couple of device on OS 5.0.0.484 right now, so that's not a clear indicator.

 

Anyways... I've not experienced what you're stating. I would suggest a couple things to consider:

 

1. Do a simple reboot on the device and see if the problem persists:  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

3. Delete that other party from you BBMessenger contacts. Ask them to delete you as well. Clear any open convo with them. Then, add that party back using their PIN.

3. Delete and resintall BBMessenger. See the instructions below.

 

 


I would suggest this: Use your BlackBerry Messenger function to backup your contacts you have now, and also, do a complete backup using Desktop manager.

Then, go to Options > Advanced > Applications and scroll the Messenger application and don't click on it, just scroll to it. Click Menu > Delete and remove the application.

Now, do a reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

Finally, use your BlackBerry browser to go to http://blackberry.com/blackberrymessenger and download/install the Messenger application again.

After installation and possibly another reboot, check your Instant Messaging Folder, or Downloads folder for the application.

You can restore your contacts from the BBM v.5 application or from the Desktop Manager > Backup/Restore > Advanced.
