Speed dial tones

It appears that the AT&T 8820 has a software "feature" that the 8800 did not have.  When speed dialing (like holding 1 for voicemail), the quickly dialed tones play out loud out of the speakers.  I do not want this.  RIM told me that it is by design.  None of my 8800s do this, but all the 8820s I had on hand did it.  When a user is in a meeting and wants to check voicemail, the last thing he/she needs is to have the speed dialed numbers played over the speaker of the BlackBerry.

RIM had no answers. Is there a way to suggest product enhancements to them that they might take seriously?

Thanks

It sounds like they had a pretty firm answer for you, actually. Smiley Wink

What OS on the 8820 are you running? On OS 4.5, you can set the BB to Quiet or Vibrate profile, and those speed dialing DTMF tones are silenced.

Good luck.

Re: Speed dial tones

It is on 4.2.  However, he would like to actually have his phone ring sometimes, so turning the phone onto vibrate or quiet is not a good enough solution for him.

RIM's comment to me was made by a handheld support technician, not speaking on behalf of all of RIM, so I still hold out hope that there is some way to suggest a mod.

Well, the issue has been around quite awhile, and this "fix" was made to OS 4.5, for that reason.

Is it what it is.

You can suggest it though, here: bbsuggestions@rim.com

Re: Speed dial tones

Well what Jsander's mentioned is can be said as the final for all the available BlackBerry with newer OS versions. Sorry to say the only option that you have now is to look for 3rd party apps if available.

Re: Speed dial tones

Hi and welcome to the forums!

While your aim is to have the function modified, you might be interested in a simple work around.

Call your VM just before the meeting. If you need to check the VM in the meeting, simply press

dial scroll to VM. It will call VM silently, and enter your password.

Thanks,
