Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

Hi,

My blackberry worked great until Google Sync was dropped a few weeks ago. Now it has been a major headache to figure out an alternative. I've read the instructions for version 7 of the desktop software here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=KB24204&sliceId=2&cm... However, I can't even get past step one. When I go to email setup, it just jumps to the end of the process, with my current email account already installed. I don't get a prompt for BlackBerry Internet Service anywhere.

Re: Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

From the device go to blackberry.com/integrate
and see if you can setup your email from there.

Re: Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

Going to blackberry.com/integrate did not take me anywhere that mentioned BlackBerry Internet Service. It just took me into my email settings.

I probably should have mentioned before, my email is still syncing fine with my gmail account. But my contact list and my calendar are not longer updating. Those are what I want to fix. There is supposed to be a synchronization option somewhere but I'm not seeing it in the email settings or anyplace else.

Re: Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

Gotcha:

head to https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw on the computer:

you can enable the sync there.  If you can't login, give verizon a call to get logged in.

I went to bis.na.blackberry and had to create a new account since I didn't have a username or anything. Then when I got to the last step of account creation it said that it can't create the account from my computer, I had to set it up from my phone. I tried to get there from my phone but couldn't get the address to work.

I called Verizon and the rep I spoke to had no idea what I should do. She just was googling everything, which I can do myself. My blackberry desktop software isn't letting my contacts, calendar, tasks, or memos sync with the phone and she couldn't help me with that either. She blames it on BlackBerry reducing its services, and says there just isn't much help for BlackBerry out there anymore since it is shutting down. I'm just got to have Verizon cancel my data plan, and get a new smartphone and a new service provider once my current contract ends.

Re: Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

Ask for the tier 2 support at verizon. The front line agents usually can't assist with this issue. The same thing happened to me. Please don't give up yet. I know the solution is simple.

Since the email setup application isn't working on your phone, we should address that first.  When that is fixed, you'll be able to manage the sync settings for contacts and calendar.

I recommend a software reload in this case.  The guide I use often is here:

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...

I referenced this thread in my software reload recommendation.

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Torch/Reloading-BlackBerry-Email-Setup-Application...

With the email setup application working properly you can use this link to configure your contact list and calendar.

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB22430&sliceId=2&cmd=displayKC&d...

Please keep us posted.  I will ask some friends to read this this thread and offer other suggestions to help.  In a way, your title fits this thread... we are "Starting over with Blackberry Internet Service" Smiley Happy

hello,

the link above does not talk of Desktop software 7.

In that KB article, you are supposed to follow what is written on the section named "For BlackBerry Device Software 5.0".

and this works if your BIS account is correctly configured on Verizon's side.

when you look at the home screen, in the top right corner ,what is written exactly ? is it in capitals ?

Re: Starting over with BlackBerry Internet Service

I spoke to a manager at Verizon yesterday. He told me that the Verizon help desk people can only help me with issues related to making calls or sending texts, and nothing else. They can't set up my BIS for me. He also told me that having a data plan is mandiatory for any account with a smart phone, and that they got rid of all data plans other than the unlimiited data plan that I'm currently paying $30 a month for but can't use. And that to cancel my contract with them I would have to pay $400 since I just renewed it recently.

Wolf359:

I attempted to follow the instructions on this link but was unable to do so:

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S... In step 4 I am unable to check the "Delete all currently installed applications" box. It is visible but greyed out.

Xandrex:

I don't know what you are refering to about the upper right corner. On my blackberry's screen and on the main page of the desktop software there is nothing written. In capital letters or any other way. When I go to https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw the upper right hand corner just has the Verizon Wireless logo.

That doesn't sound right to me.  I'm with sprint and they were to assist with my BIS setup by resetting my password, etc.

They even logged in to check some settings for me but maybe Verizon doesn't have that ability.  I find that impossible to believe though.

Here is the link from their own site:  It points to https://vzw.blackberry.com for bis setup.

http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=20375

Thats odd, I know the blackberry has to have a specific data plan attached to your account, not just any smartphone data plan.

Here is something we can try if you're willing.  This is another way of doing a software reload from scratch.  If you can't setup BIS after this, Verizon has to figure out what is going on with your account.

download and install the software for your phone from
http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html
Download and install bbsak.  Here is the link and guide:
http://bbsak.org/faq.php

I am going to ask some of my friends to look at this for additional suggestions.  I'm trying to locate the data plans on the verizon site but the layout is confusing.
