Re: Supplementary Service Error: General Error (After every sms and call)

I do not think by posting this over here you will find a solution.

According to me blackberry support community forum is for newbies and peoole who are new to the blackberry transceiver. This forum is like a users manual and nothing else at all.

They will always suggest you do things that a normal blackberry user wouldve have done before posting here.

I would suggest you to understand the firmware of your phone, Get learning JAVA, and find a solution to it.

Its not that easy, but it is very much possible once your through with it.

Instead of wasting time posting here i would have done the appropriate.

Hello,

Actually, BBM requires a functional data plan from your carrier. It is a BB-proprietary service available only to BB users and no others...it therefore requires you to be subscribed, from your carrier, to a data plan that enables the service.

Good luck!

If you were replying to the post immediately above yours, I disagree...there is a solution, and it is now posted...

I disagree with this as well...this site has evolved into a very useful site for many folks. Not only new BB users, but also advanced users attempting to learn how to do some rather special things. For instance, it is difficult to migrate a BB onto a carrier network that does not natively support that specific model number...but, here on this site, you can find instructions to do so. Not a "user manual" thing at all...

There are many many basic things that everyone should try when they get into troubles...but, there is no harm in them asking such questions if they truly do not know to do so.

If you intend to say that the poster above you can find a solution via what you have suggested, such is not possible. The service the poster desires is proprietary...there is no method to hack into and use that service without subscribing to a proper data plan.

No waste of time here at all for any poster...we are glad to take questions from users of all technical abilities. Such is the nature of this site.

Good luck!

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then a few more questions remain...

You have a 9780 and say you are on Vodafone. Unfortunately, there are many Vodafone's in the world...so I can't tell more details than that. But, did you obtain this BB from this Vodafone carrier that you are using? If so, then you should immediately contact them again...you paid them for the device and you pay them for your services, which also then includes 100% of your formal support. Only they have the power to look "behind the scenes" and discover why your BB is not properly attaching to their network and receiving the services for which you pay them.

If you obtained this 9780 elsewhere, then have you verified that it's compatible with the Vodafone network you are attempting to use? Not all BB models are compatible with all carrier networks...some carriers only support a subset of all BB models, and using any other BB on their network can be quite tricky indeed.

So, all in all, please provide further details about your acquisition method of this BB as well as what exactly your carrier has told you in this regard.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Supplementary Service Error: General Error (After every sms and call)

Hi, I'm 100% sure your phone is blacklisted. I had the same problem with my phone. I could use bbm, internet, whatsapp and etc...but I could not make or receive calls and sms's. Whenever I tried to check my balance I got the same error message. And whenever I tried to make a normal voice call,I got the "NO SERVICE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE" , I contacted blackberry via twitter @blackberryhelp , they couldn't tell me what was wrong, they even told me that my phone was not blacklisted according to their records, I called my carrier, they also fed me with lies. I took the matter to the local police and then I found out that my phone was blacklisted by my previous carrier. So that's it, that error simpy means you have a blacklisted phone, check with your current and previous carrier.
