Switching from enterprise email account to webmail

I recently purchased a Bold on ebay to use when I travel.  When I try and set up my email and contacts via WI-FI, I only get the enterprise set up option.  Is there any way to switch this?  I have nothing on the phone so a wipe is not a problem.  Everything I have read to this point says I need my service provider to make the change.  I intend on using the phone in the US but don't have a SIM yet.  Any suggestions?

Re: Switching from enterprise email account to webmail

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Everything you are reading is correct...BBs do not have a native email app. Rather, they require the use of a service (called BIS -- BlackBerry Internet Service), hosted by the carriers/BlackBerry, to enable email and other BB-proprietary services onto a BB. So, not having any plan at all on this BB means not having any of those BB-proprietary services, including email. This holds true regardless of pathway (WiFi versus carrier data network) that is available...the service must be subscribed to in order to be active for any pathway.

Once you subscribe and get your BB properly functioning, you should be good to go (well, as long as your carrier natively supports the specific model number BB and the BB has already been unlocked for use on any carrier).

Good luck!
