I am also having problems with my Torch since the OS was upgraded to latest version 6. My battery life is atrocious. An hour glass appears constantly on my screen as if some huge program is running in background. My carrier has replaced my device 3 times! as soon as software updates, the problem returns immediately. Has BB taken ownership of this issue? How can I speak to someone at BB without paying an arm and a leg? (carrier has good intentions but not trained to deal with this)

Hello and welcome to the forums!
What OS did you upgrade to? Go to Options>Device>About Device Versions. Your current OS will be in parentheses the third line down (like v6.0.0.xxx).
Please let us know that information and we'll take it from there.

each time I've been instructed to update to OS 6.0 bundle 2342 (V18.104.22.1686, platform 22.214.171.124
When I've received the replacement Torchs in the past, the OS system was the previous version. As soon as I activate the phone, I'm prompted to update. I've put that off for a while, but eventually I do update the software. Once that occurs, I start having all of these problems. The last device they sent me already had the lattest OS version (aboe). It started being problematic within about 2 hours of use. As a side note, one indicator of pending problems is my voice dial program starts to run slow and not respond to my voice commands very quickly (delayed).

Okay, well it might be time for a little more drastic measures. I'd recommend a complete wipe of your OS, then install the most current OS (not from your carrier, which I'm assuming is AT&T), which at the moment is 126.96.36.1996 from Vodafone.
Please use the following instructions:
Download an app called BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife). You will use this to wipe the OS from your device.
Download the most current OS for your device, which you can get here.
Connect your device to your PC and launch BBSAK. It will ask you for a password. If you don't have one set for your device, just click OK.
Choose the option to Wipe OS. When completed, you will be left with a white screen and an app error 507, which means the wipe was successfull.
Disconnect your device.
On your PC, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader. Delete the file at the bottom called vendor.xml.
Connect your device.
In that same folder as above, there's an executable file called Loader (has a little phone next to it). Double click on that and it will start loading your OS.

Not sure what the specialist had you do. There are a coupe of "wipes," one being a "security" wipe, which entails restoring the device to its factory defaults, leaving the OS intact. The wipe I'm describing is completely removing the OS from the device and starting from scratch, which is sometimes necessary to clear out any "cobwebs" that might be left over from a traditional OS upgrade.
