Torch Restore Factory Settings

Hello:  So I've managed to create QUITE the mess of my Torch 9800 moving from my Blackberry Curve 8330.  Does anyone know how to restore the Torch back to the factory default settings.  Starting from scratch is probably my best bet.  So far, I'm regretting my purchase.  My BF bought an android phone and he's up and running, currently rocking out to FM radio, while I am still struggling with multiple email accounts and contacts from Outlook.  Oh, and my Help doesn't seem to be working.  I can see the topics, but when I select, nothing happens.  So, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Factory reset instructions...  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB18998

Now, we'd be glad to help you with your other issues. Moving your data and such from the 8330 to the 9800 should be quite simple using Desktop Manager > Switch Device Wizard.

Re: Torch Restore Factory Settings

Hi

I have upgraded my phone via Desktop Manager, it does not turn on (after removing the battery, the red light flashes, but the phone dies when the progress bar starts).

To solve that, I was considering to restore the factory settings, but I could not find any information about doing so with the phone in such conditions (power off). Is there any way to do so?

Thanks!

Re: Torch Restore Factory Settings

Hello, when I first purchased my BB 9800 I had no problem in configuring and using it with my Outlook email and calendar accounts. I also installed a satellite navigator provided by Vodafone on it, which is indispensable to my work.

Afterwards, with the continuous software updates recommended by the Blackberry Desktop Software on OS 6, I incurred in a series of errors and problematic synch. Most of all, the Vodafone Navigator - which I pay a monthly fee for - does not work anymore.

I would like to know if and how I can restore Torch to factory settings in terms of software and OS, that is cancelling all updates that have been done so far so that I can use it normally like before.

Please help, I'm almost desperate as I can't use it anymore... Thanks in advance

Re: Torch Restore Factory Settings

@doubt, yes you can restore your phone to the exact condition it was in when you first opened the box.

From your homescreen, go to Options>Security>Security Wipe.  Check all three boxes, type "blackberry" in the box at the bottom and click Wipe Data.

Presto, just like new!  Smiley Happy

Re: Torch Restore Factory Settings

@BillJ - Hi, I don't know if what you propose can solve my problem... I go to Options > Security > Security wipe and have the possibility to to delete 3 things:

emails, contacts, etc.

apps

media card

How do I delete the updates that have been done on the software? I would like to be sure of that before deleting everything.

Thanks

Re: Torch Restore Factory Settings

Bill suggested a "Security Wipe," which basically resets the device to out-of-the-box settings.

Sounds like you're looking to do an OS wipe and downgrade the software.

Before you do that, though, have you contacted Vodafone to see what, if anything they can do to help you resolve the issue with the Navigator software?

If you choose to go ahead with the downgrade, you will need to have the original software installed on your PC to reload it to your device, which you will most likely be able to get from the Vodafone website.

To wipe your OS, please follow the instructions below:

On your PC, download an app called BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife). You will use this to wipe the OS from your device.

Connect your device to your PC and launch BBSAK. It will ask you for a password. If you don't have one set for your device, just click OK.

Choose the option to Wipe Device. When completed, you will be left with a white screen and an app error 507, which means the wipe was successful.

Close BBSAK, disconnect, then reconnect your device.

On your PC, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader.  There's an executable file called Loader (has a little phone next to it). Double click on that and it will start loading your OS.

Let us know how it goes!
